Bongs are a popular tool for any cannabis consumer. After each use, it’s essential to clean your bong thoroughly. But if you don’t clean your bong regularly, it can get pretty gross pretty quickly. Nothing ruins a nice relaxing smoke like taking a drag only to taste the grossness that has built up in your bong. Yuck! Fear not, my fellow stoners; I’m here to show you how to clean a bong with this quick and easy method that will leave your bong looking and tasting better than ever. There’s nothing like taking a nice, long hit off a freshly cleaned bong. Cleaning your bong is simple, and you likely have everything you need to do it right in your kitchen.

Here’s how to do it:

Things you need to clean a bong

  • Isopropyl alcohol or baking soda, or salt
  • Ziploc bag or resealable container
  • A bowl for mixing
  • Paper towels
  • A sink or clean surface for working on
  • An old toothbrush (optional)
  • Cotton swabs (optional)

Step 1: Empty the contents of your bong

Empty your bong of all water and residue. You can turn it upside down and give it a good shake.

Step 2: Take your Bong Apart

First, disassemble your bong and remove the bowl from the downstem. If your bong has percolators or diffusers, make sure to remove them. And place these smaller components of your bong into a Ziploc bag or a separate container.

Step 3: Make your cleaning solution

We recommended either isopropyl alcohol, salt water, or baking soda as the best options for making a cleaning solution. Whichever you choose, never mix all these cleaning solutions together, as they will damage your bong.

To clean the inside of your bong, fill it with your choice of cleaning solution and shake it vigorously. This will remove any residue from sticky buds or smoke that may have collected on the walls of your bong over time. You can also use salt or isopropyl alcohol for this purpose (but not both at once!).

Using isopropyl alcohol to clean your bong

Isopropyl alcohol is a popular cleaning agent for bongs because of its high concentration of alcohol. It’s a strong solvent, so it dissolves even the most rigid resin from bong walls, but it’s also safe to use on all types of glass and silicone. Isopropyl will clean the inside of the bong and eliminate any resin stuck to it.

Don’t use rubbing alcohol – it can damage your bong!

You can pour isopropyl alcohol into the Ziploc bag or resealable container and add your bong parts. Give everything a good shake and let it sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing out your bong.

Using salt and baking soda to clean your bong

If you’re looking for an alternative, salt and a pinch of baking soda can also remove resin from the sides of your bong without damaging it. The salt will help remove any residual resin from around the edges of your bong.

  • Fill a bowl with enough warm water and put some salt in there (1/2 cup should do) or add 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of salt to the mixture and stir until dissolved.
  • Submerge your bong in the cleaning solution and let it soak for at 30 minutes or so before rinsing it out.
  • If there’s stubborn build-up, dip a cotton swab or a sponge into the solution and start scrubbing off any build-up
  • Pour another saltwater mixture into the bag or container with the separate bong parts and use a toothbrush to scrub until the bong parts are clean.

Step 4: Clean the outside of your bong

To clean the outside surface of your bong, use dish soap to remove any residue from sticky buds or dirty fingers. If you have a glass or ceramic bong, it will most likely be dishwasher safe; after rinsing your bong, you can place it into the dishwasher to give it that extra deep clean.

Step 5: Rinse everything

Rinse your bong parts thoroughly with warm water.

Step 6: Dry your bong

Dry your bong thoroughly; if not, it can cause mould and mildew inside your bong chamber when they’re left wet for too long once everything is dry, reassemble your bong and enjoy! (I recommend doing this every few weeks to keep your bong clean and fresh.)

It’s also good to wipe down your bong every so often with a damp cloth to prevent mould and mildew from forming on its surface.

Cleaning your bong doesn’t have to be a headache

There you have it! With just a few common household items, you can have your bong looking and smoking like new in no time. So what are you waiting for? Get cleaning! Now you know how to clean a bong with isopropyl alcohol, baking soda, and salt. This quick and easy method will leave your bong looking and tasting better than ever. Next time you’re enjoying a nice relaxing smoke, you can rest assured that your bong is clean! Happy smoking!
